Task Two:

A little more to think about.......think of a Question that a close friend may ask you, tell me what the Question is and your interpretation in this, the Five Rune Layout, the aim is to select five runes, one at a time, and lay them down on your cloth or table in specific places.

The first rune should go in the middle, with the subsequent runes forming a cross shape around it. Rune two should go on the left of the centre (west), rune three on the top (north), rune four at the bottom (south) and rune five to the right (east). You can either lay them face down and turn them over as you read them, or put them face up straightway.

The idea of this layout is that three runes in a horizontal position (rune 2, 1 and 5) represent your past, present and future. The rune below the central rune (4) shows what elements of the problem or issue need to be accepted, whilst the rune to the top of the centre (3) shows what help you could receive in relation to your problem or issue.

Task Three:

The Nine Rune Cast

A Reading for your life path perhaps? Or one of your family or friends? A look into what stage of life or opportunites are available to you. You need time and a calm outlook for this. If you read up on some of the Myths regarding the Runes, you may have come across the fact that Nine is a magical number in the Myths. Open your Rune Pouch and take out nine Runes, hold for a while and then scatter them. If any lay face down, just turn them over. The Runes nearer the center will relate to current situations, those at the edges are slightly less important. Runes close together or even touching may well be complimenting each others influences and those Runes that are on opposite sides of the cast are going to be opposing influences. Now, use what you have learned and use your own intuition! This is a Cast where I think you will soon discover your talents are growing! There are no hard and fast rules.

I want you to enjoy these tasks. Put as much into them as you can, remembering what you learned through your OWL lessons in this subject and please make sure that your work is all submitted to the Owlery by the end of Week Eight. Thank you, everyone.

I  am very pleased to see you here. For your Newt we are delving straight into Rune Readings. I know you will have to refer back to your Owl notes and that is fine! We DO have to have a lecture before we commence, though.

Some of you may remember that we discussed very briefly about Reverse and converse Readings... that is when a Rune falls in a Reverse position and when a Rune falls on it's side. I personally do not do this, I have no objection to Readers who do, I just do not think it necessary. We can divine as our knowledge and intuition tells us. We do not have to 'pretty things up' for a Querant. BUT if you feel that you wish to use this, read the following carefully!

There are some Runes that will not be reversible, these are - Gebo, Hagalaz, Naudiz, Isa, Jera, Eihwaz, Sowilo, Inguz and Dagaz. If you choose to use Reverse interpretations, please remember that instead of giving a 'negative'  or 'opposite' interpretation, look at it as the 'less positive' interpretation... it really does make a big difference to an outcome! Lecture over... we commence....

Task One:

The Three Rune Cast: This is a very brief Cast where you pick three Runes from your Pouch and lay them in a row, the first in the center which represents the Present, the next to its left, which represents the Past and the third to the right of the center Rune to represent the future. Here are your Runes....... tell me what you find. Imagine you are doing this Reading for yourself.
